In September 2014, during President Xi Jinping's state visit to Sri Lanka, he announced the launch of China-Sri Lanka FTA negotiations. In April this year, the prime ministers of China and Sri Lanka held talks in Beijing, and jointly expressed their desire to further speed up the FTA negotiations and strive to achieve results within this year.
Sri Lanka's industrial base is relatively weak. Due to a lack of resources, a large number of industrial raw materials still need to be imported from abroad. Capital and technology-intensive industries have not yet formed in Sri Lanka, and there is almost no heavy industry.
In recent years, mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in various fields has continued to expand, and bilateral trade has maintained a momentum of rapid growth. According to China Customs statistics, in 2014, the total bilateral trade between China and Sri Lanka was 4.042 billion US dollars, of which China exported 3.793 billion US dollars to Sri Lanka, and China imported 249 million US dollars from Sri Lanka, an increase of 11.66 percent , 10.35 percent and 36.24 percent respectively.
This year, Chinese-funded enterprises have achieved leapfrog development in Sri Lanka investment, and many large-scale investment projects have been signed. China's investment projects in Sri Lanka mainly include Colombo Port South Container Terminal invested by China Merchants Group, Colombo Port City invested by China Communications Construction Group Co., Ltd., and Colombo District 3 Apartments invested by AVIC International (Hong Kong) Group Corporation. The investment of Chinese private enterprises in Sri Lanka has developed rapidly, involving hotels, tourism, agricultural product processing, fishery, furniture manufacturing, textiles, feed, biomass power generation, bicycles, warehousing and logistics, and other fields.
The Sri Lanka International Construction Exhibition Build SL is sponsored by the Sri Lanka Construction Chamber CCI. The exhibition has been successfully held for 13 sessions so far. The exhibition is a veteran exhibition and the best platform for exchanges in the construction field in Sri Lanka. Build SL will display the latest construction products and technologies to serve public construction projects. From 2016 to 2017, the organizer will increase publicity efforts, and it is expected to attract 20,000 professional knowledge to come to the exhibition. The net exhibition area is expected to exceed 5,000 square meters for indoor exhibitions Area and 2,000 square meters for outdoor exhibition areas, with more than 350 booths.
Introduction to the organizer: The Chamber of Construction Industry, Sri Lanka (CCI) was established in 2001 to represent the interests of the construction industry. It is composed of professionals from related societies in Sri Lanka and the National Construction Association.
